About the sea salt soap bar

At Salt Tide was inspired by the shoreline at Surge Narrows on Read Island in the Discovery Islands -- where rock, salt, and sea air meet, and everything feels textured, mineral-rich, and alive.

It began with that feeling. The coarseness of salt underfoot, the quiet movement of water, the scent of cedar carried in from the forest.

Each bar is made in small batches using Vancouver Island sea salt and oils slowly infused with cedar. The salt brings a gentle, natural exfoliation, while the oils are chosen to cleanse without stripping the skin.

Simple, grounded, and made to be used — a bar that carries a small piece of the shoreline into everyday life.

Ingredients

Full ingredient list for the current bar (in plain English): coconut oil, olive oil infused with cedar grown at Surge Narrows, shea butter, avocado oil, water, Vancouver Island sea salt, lye, French green clay, cypress essential oil (the tree that we all know of as "cedar" is actually cypress, not true cedar), clary sage essential oil, and black spruce essential oil.

Each batch is made in small quantities, so slight variation in colour, swirl, and texture is part of the process.

Frequently asked

1. Is this soap made on Read Island?

These soaps are currently being transitioned to being made on Read Island once the cabin is complete. This first batch was made where we live part-time in Yellow Point, on Vancouver Island. The cedar that was used in the olive oil infusion was gathered by hand at Surge Narrows.

2. What makes a sea salt soap different?

Sea salt soap has a slightly different feel than a traditional bar. The addition of mineral-rich salt creates a gentle, natural exfoliation and a firmer bar, with a lighter lather.

It cleanses without stripping the skin, leaving it feeling smooth and refreshed rather than dry.

3. Can I use it every day?

Yes, this bar is designed for everyday use.

The exfoliation from the salt is gentle, but if your skin is very sensitive, you may prefer to use it every other day or alternate with a softer soap.

4. Why might each bar look slightly different?

Each bar is made and cut by hand in small batches.

Natural variation in colour, swirl, and texture is part of the process and reflects the ingredients, the environment, and the way each batch comes together. No two bars are exactly the same.

5. Will more soap varieties be available later?

Yes, this is the first bar in a growing collection.

Future soaps will be shaped by season, place, and the botanicals available at the time, with new variations slowly added over time.

6. Is this suitable for face or body?

This bar is best suited for the body.

The sea salt provides a gentle exfoliation that works well for hands and body, but may be too coarse for more delicate facial skin.

If your skin is more resilient, you may choose to use it occasionally on the face—but for daily facial use, a softer, non-exfoliating bar is generally a better fit.
