Our story
It begins with place.
Surge Narrows is a real place — a meeting of forest and water, shaped by tide, weather, and time. It’s where trees grow slowly, wood carries memory, and care is learned through use rather than theory.
Everything we make begins here.

Working with the forest
Long before products, there was wood. Learning to work with trees teaches patience and attention — to grain, to strength, to what a material can and cannot be asked to do. Pine, fir, and cedar are not abstract resources here; they are working trees, known by hand and by season.
This relationship with material is the foundation of Of Surge & Keel, where wood is shaped into functional objects meant to be used, cared for, and kept. Boards are made to gather people, to carry marks over time, and to last through years of everyday life.
Craft here is slow and deliberate. Grain determines form. Knots are respected. Natural edges are preserved where possible. The goal is not perfection, but endurance.

Bringing the forest to the body
Living close to the forest also teaches you what the body carries. Hands that work with wood become dry and weathered. Bodies that live outdoors hold wind, salt air, cold, and damp.
Surge Blooms grew from a desire for bodycare that felt as honest as the materials on the workbench — not perfumed, not plastic, not generic. Small-batch balms are made from the same trees we work with: pine for protection and repair, fir for breath and renewal, cedar for grounding and calm.
These are not decorative ingredients. They are working plants, chosen for what they do and how they make you feel. Surge Blooms is forest care applied to the skin — a way to feel grounded, steady, and restored.
It’s like being in the forest — but on your skin.
A place to return to
The cabin at Surge Narrows is not separate from this work — it is part of it. Built slowly and thoughtfully, it reflects the same values: simplicity, durability, and respect for place.
The cabin exists as a place to rest, to notice the tide, to walk among trees, and to experience the environment that shapes everything we make. It is where ideas settle, materials are chosen, and the rhythm of land and water is felt most clearly.

One World, Many Expressions
Surge Narrows Collective is an ecosystem of work rooted in the same principles:
-
Of Surge & Keel — working with the forest as material
-
Surge Blooms — working with the forest as care
-
The Cabin — living within the forest, slowly and attentively
Each is a different expression of the same place.

Why we make and share this work
In a world full of generic, mass-produced things made anywhere, Surge Narrows stands for something quieter and more specific. Everything here is shaped by place, made in small batches, and designed to last.
This work is for people who value materials, who care how things are made, and who find meaning in objects and rituals that grow more familiar with time.
